1. Driver’s Requirements
1.1 The horsebox may only be driven by the named hirer on the signed Hire Agreement.
1.2 The hirer must have signed the terms and conditions, completed and signed the Hire Agreement Form and the Insurance Hirer’s Proposal Form or Repeat Hire Slip.
1.3 The hirer must be between 25 and 75 years old and must have held a UK driving licence for at least 2 consecutive years and have no more than 6 penalty points.
1.4 All documents outlined in the Hire Agreement Form, or otherwise requested by JTC Transport, must be provided prior to the horsebox being taken.
2. Use of the Horsebox
2.1 The horsebox must not be driven or taken outside of England, Scotland and Wales.
2.2 The maximum mileage per day is 150 miles. Any additional mileage will be charged at 50p per mile thereafter.
2.3 The correct fuel (diesel) must be used. The hirer is liable for repair costs if incorrect fuel is used.
2.4 The horsebox must be securely locked at all times when unattended, ensuring all security devices are used. The hirer must keep keys and tracking fob with them. JTC Transport cannot be held liable for loss or damage to personal belongings left inside.
2.5 The horsebox must only be used to transport horses/ponies. Horses must travel with a valid passport at all times. It is the sole responsibility of the hirer to ensure this.
2.6 Horses must not be left unattended while tied outside. If left unattended, they must be loaded with partitions securely closed.
2.7 Smoking and vaping are prohibited. A fine of £50 plus any damage costs will be charged if evidence is found.
2.8 The hirer must comply with load and weight restrictions and is responsible for fines, charges, and lost revenue from overloading.
2.9 The hirer must not sell, rent, dispose of, or give legal rights over the horsebox.
2.10 No repairs or modifications may be carried out without JTC Transport’s written permission.
2.11 The horsebox must not be used illegally or while under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or restricted medication.
2.12 The horsebox must not carry explosive, dangerous, or hazardous goods.
3. Payment and Damage Deposit
3.1 A non-refundable deposit of 50% of the hire fee must be paid at booking. The balance is due before hire begins. A payment link will be sent for the balance.
3.2 A pending Damage Deposit of £500 is payable in advance by credit/debit card.
3.3 Any repair or replacement costs will be deducted from the Damage Deposit. The hirer is liable for the Insurance Excess.
3.4 The hirer must pay all fines, tolls, or penalties. Any delayed fines (e.g., speeding tickets) will be forwarded with an administration cost.
3.5 If returned in the same condition, clean, and with no extra charges, the Damage Deposit will be refunded within 72 hours.
3.6 JTC Transport may recover sums due in excess of the Damage Deposit for damage or loss caused during hire.
4. Pick Up and Return
4.1 Pick up and return at Thaxted.
4.2 A full day hire is 7am–6pm. Late returns incur £15 per hour. No refund for early returns.
4.3 The hirer must check the horsebox condition on collection.
4.4 The horsebox must be returned with a full tank. Any shortage charged at £30 plus pump price.
4.5 The horsebox must be returned clean. A cleaning fee of £50–£150 applies if not.
4.6 Condition will be checked on return.
4.7 One vehicle may be parked at owner’s risk at the pick-up location.
5. Insurance
5.1 The horsebox is covered by comprehensive insurance for the hire period.
5.2 Hirer pays the Insurance Excess of £500.
5.3 JTC Transport may recover costs not covered by insurance.
5.4 Exclusions include wear and tear, tyre damage (unless accident), theft if keys left inside, loss of fuel, etc.
5.5 Insurance covers the driver and two passengers only. No passengers in the horse area.
5.6 Horses are not covered by insurance. Hirer must arrange their own horse cover.
6. Breakdown
6.1 Hirer must inform JTC Transport immediately of faults or breakdowns.
6.2 JTC Transport is not liable for delays or costs from breakdown.
6.3 Hirer bears costs of breakdown caused by negligence.
7. Accident
7.1 Do not admit fault. Collect details, take photos, and contact emergency services if needed.
7.2 Inform JTC Transport as soon as possible.
7.3 JTC Transport is not liable for loss or expense caused by accidents.
7.4 Complete Accident Report Form and send to JTC Transport.
8. Equine Rescue Services
8.1 Services available: roadside assistance, recovery, emergency horse transport, and livery. Hirer is liable for charges.

8.3 Follow Accident Card procedures provided.
8.4 Rescue Services may refuse to transport horses without passports or if unsafe. Hirer is liable for damage caused by horses to transporters.
9. Cancellations and Rights to Refuse
9.1 Cancellations charged at 50% of Hire Fee, taken from deposit.
9.2 JTC Transport may refuse hire if hirer is unsuitable. Payments will be refunded.
9.3 JTC Transport may cancel hire if licence details are invalid. Payments will be forfeited.
10. Data Protection
10.1 JTC Transport may hold information for 12 months.
10.2 Information will not be shared except with payment processors, DVLA, debt collectors, emergency services, governing bodies, or BVRLA.
11. General
11.1 JTC Transport reserves the right to terminate the agreement by written notice if the hirer breaches the terms or fails to remedy a breach.
